Nothing has really changed today although the dryness of the eye is getting to feel a bit better. But overall nothing has really changed for better or worse but hey at least no sign of rejection yet and thats always good 🙂

Eye redness already reducing
So I checked my eyes out in a mirror like I should be doing regularly and the level of redness is reducing which is great because now I’ll have a definite sign of rejection if it comes back as redness of the eye is normal after the surgery but not after a while
Second Day after surgery and things are improving
So day 2 after surgery and i can finally easily keep both eyes open. To make things better i think im finally starting to get an easier time with my eye drops and can get them in accurately and by myself.
Had bought an eye drop guide but it didn’t perform well as the light hole was too small and couldn’t get the drop aimed correctly. My eyes aren’t tearing up nearly as much as it was so i’m also taking the artificial tear drops for comfort and preventing dry eye.
And I have the shield on for the first night
Feeling optimistic
So after a short nap im four drop does away from finishing the days drops (2 if you take account timings as 2 will be taking 5 mins apart while the other 2 5 mins a part a few hours later) and im finally able to keep both eyes stable and while vision is still bad i can actually start reading stuff big enough. Which is an improvent from the old next to nothing.
Still though its way too soon to judge on such a thing as it’ll be around 8 months for stable vision
A few eye drops doses later and im doing better
After having a few rounds of eye drops i am finding myself able to fully open my eye untill it starts getting too watery. I was given 3 typeps of drops an anti bacterial drop Vigamox then Prendisone Acutate, and a Tears drop.
Given that My eyes are being very very watery I have been skipping the Tears drop. At the rate things are going now i will probably start the Tears drops on my next round as its not getting nearly as watery.
And My first Follow up appointment
So i got up and got to my follow up appointment where they took off my temporary shield and gave me a more permanent one for when i sleep. I coudln’t open my eyes very much but got a good report and everything is going perfectly.
And the surgery
Janurary 23rd was the surgery I was going to have DALK or PK cornea transplant the latter being if ithe cornea layers couldn’t safely separate. Thankfully they did as going with a DALK is going to give me a much better outcome overall. I was expecting pain for the rest of the night as thats what i have read from other people’s experience with thier cornea transplants especially from a guy who also got to do the DALK route. I consider myself blessed to have only to deal with the itchiness from the stitches that are in my eye. Was totally expecting moderate to severe pain for the first night of the surgery.
This is my nice temporary patch I have to keep on until my first appointment.
The Day Of the Surgery
So woke up took a shower then called the register to check in. Things were going swimmingly but then 20 mins past the time i was to check in was never called. So i called the register again to inqure as i was growing increasingly nervous and was unsure what to do as there was no fromal place to check in or anything. Turns out they only had one of my 2 forms of health insurance on file and had a old number on file so regardless was a a good idea i called. I have no idea why the first one didnt verify the insurance details .
The Night Before Surgery!
So as i was doing loads of research as what i am to be expecting. Ant it would appear that I was researchign the wrong freaken prosecure i was researching DSEK when i should ahve been researching DALK. I also was a bit worry about the claims of increased risk of glocoma as a result of how the DSEK worked. Was really relieved though As i didnt think id be able to handle a full month of sitting on my back with my face straight up whenever possible lol also found some blogs of other peoples experiences with the DALK procedure.
When I was sleeping i had a dream where i was just waking up from anestesia and i started repeatedly saying “Quack Quack” and the surgeon came in to check on me and i looked at him and let out a long “QUUUUACK!”” then i immmediately apologized profusely and i woke up from the dream. No real explanation of the dream
