Yes It’s that time of the year again! I have my yearly thank you Christmas Card ready to go for my donor family. Without their generous donation I would be effectively blind in my left eye. It’s thanks to the generosity of grieving family’s with the strength to make some good out of a terrible situation where other people get to have a second chance at life or in my case restore a good level of vision.

And kerataconus is returning with a vengeance
Had my semi annual check up on the state of my eyes.
Unfortunately it was discovered that my left eye my transplant eye is having its kerataconus come back and I will be wanting to get cxl done to preserve what’s left.
Thanks for keeping a close eye on things I was able to get the issue detected before things got out of hand and made another transplant necessary.
The cxl procedure is set for January 10th 2023
Today Is Another Milestone!
As of today I have reached the 6 year mark of my official diagnosis of Keratoconus. 7/11/2016 was the day that I went to Wolfe Eye Clinic after being referred to them by Miller’s Family Eye Care due to their suspicion of me having Keratoconus.
Still don’t quite get how I managed to let things go undetected for so long. With how my dominant eye was doing ok in the morning but crap by evening that the doctors wouldn’t be able to find anything wrong.
Always take changes in your vision serious and do your daily eye exam you might be surprised to find an improvement in vision. You could even discover your developing diabetes enough in advance before any noticeable symptoms show up, the eye is the first thing that can be effected by diabetes.
Also if your doctor isn’t checking for Keratoconus if your prescription is changing frequently or you are prepping for LASIK i’d advise you to find someone else
Today Marks Yet Another Milestone!
Six years ago was the day that I had my appointment with Millers Family Eye Care and got advised that I had Keratoconus.
They referred me to Wolfe Eye Clinic which ultimately confirmed the diagnosis and that my left eye was bad enough to need a cornea transplant.
It still surprises me that I could have let it go for so long and that my right eye was able to take over so well. I thought that nobody would take it seriously given that at the time I would have decent vision in the morning but crap in the evening I thought they wouldn’t be able to find the problem.
This Year’s Full Eye Exam Went Well!
So I had my yearly Full Eye Exam today! Everything is going smoothly no signs of any issues and my scleral prescription is stable!!!
Kinda Expected this really with how things were going but it’s nice to have that confirmation that things are going well. I don’t even need to get a new set of sclerals.
Hoping this trend continues because the thing about keratoconus is that it can go dormant whenever it chooses to and then spontaneously starts progressing but so far things are going good for me!
That Time Of The Year For My Annual Full Eye Health Checkup!!
The Date is set. June 22 will be the day where I have my full on eye exam (as opposed to my specialist appointments that checks the status of my Keratoconus).
I expect good results from this exam and it will also be confirming if my Scleral Contact Lens prescription needs changing.
Had My Six Month Checkup Today
Today I had my six month checkup to see how my eyes are doing in terms of my cornea transplant and overall state of keratoconus.
I am pleased that the cornea graft on my left eye is doing perfect and there is no sign of progression in terms of my keratoconus.
I am also thankful that the stye that I had a few months ago ended up resolving itself without causing an infection. Starting myself on cleaning my eye lids with occusoft before inserting my sclerals seems to be doing the trick as I haven’t had a repeat occurrence as of yet.
My next appointment will be in six months and with a new doctor.
Another Milestone Has Been Reached
Today marks 1 year of my current set of sclerals! To think that it took 8 times to get the fit just right.
But in the end I get to enjoy 20/20 in both eyes and superior comfort compared to rgp contacts
Today Marks Another Milestone
Today marks the 5-year anniversary of my cornea transplant. My cornea transplant was 1/23/2017. 5 years ago, today would have been a Monday instead of a Sunday. I was able to get a DALK transplant instead of a PK which should mean that my transplant should last theoretically forever since the main cause of cornea graft rejections hasn’t been touched since DALK is a partial thickness (99% transplant my doctor called it) the procedure leaves the final layer of your cornea intact.
I am pleased to report that everything appears to be going smoothly and no signs of trouble is immediately apparent. This whole thing wouldn’t be possible without the generous donations of grieving families that are bold enough to extract some good out of a terrible situation through the act of organ and tissue donation.
